Whale Wars

Have you seen this show? It is intense. Basically, a bunch of extreme conservationists (The Sea Shepherd crew) do whatever is possible to save the lives of whales in the Antarctic region.. with, as the name suggests, very militant tactics. Even the cover for this show says it all "You haven't lived unless you've found something worth dying for." The fact that these people are willing to fight and die for a whale is mind-blowing in a noble and ridiculous way.

I guess both sides of the argument are valid. Sea Shepherd claims its taking the proactive role against illegal whale hunting, while Japan claims what they are doing is legal in the name of research and those who oppose it are simply against the nation of Japan and its long standing practice of whale hunting. While I can't really argue with cultural norms, I do feel like they need to evolve with time, and as we become more aware of the need to conserve and protect, the Sea Shepherds appear to be fighting a noble, yet uphill and mostly unsuccessful battle.
